Male Hormone Imbalance & Hormonal Illness-- ANDROPAUSE
What Men Must Know About Hormone Imbalance and Hormonal Illnesses

Men Do Experience Hormone Imbalance and
Hormonal Illnesses

Contrary to popular opinion Hormone Imbalance or Hormonal Illness is not confined to females, but affects men just the same. Men, this is good news. Now, when you mess up you can actually say, "It's not me, it's my hormones." Many women probably suspect this and recognize the symptoms described in their own spouses or significant others.

Male Hormone Imbalance or Hormonal Illnesses repond very well to Bioidentical Hormones Restoration Therapy (BHRT)

PELLET BHRT more closely mimics the body's way of delivering these hormones to the organs in need.  Hence, it is the preferred method of Hormone Replacement therapy.

Andropause, or male menopause occurs when men's natural levels of testosterone fall below their normal range. The main male hormone is testosterone, which helps form personalities, male sexual characteristics including emotional and physical strength, body shape, deepness of voice, sex drive and performance during sex. The most common symptoms of lower testosterone clearly indicate Hormonal Imbalance and Hormonal Illness. These symptoms include:

  • Fatigue
  • Erectile dysfunction (ED)
  • Decreased energy, sluggish
  • Depression
  • Irritability
  • Decreased libido
  •  Premature aging
  • Loss of muscle mass and strength
  • Change in hair growth and skin quality

Production and Function of Testosterone Hormone and Other Androgens.

Testosterone is primarily produced in the male testicles with a small amount being also produced in the adrenal glands. Testosterone production begins in the hypothalamus > with the release of gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH), a chemical messenger to the pituitary gland. The GnRH > stimulates the pituitary gland > to produce follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH), together known as gonadotropins. LH > is released into the bloodstream and travels to the testes to start the production of testosterone from cholesterol. Leydig cells > change the cholesterol into a series of compounds until it becomes testosterone. The testosterone is released into the bloodstream and is carried to receptors by a protein called sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG). Low testosterone causes Hormone Imbalance and may be triggered by a variety of conditions as:

  • Aging
  • Physical trauma to the testes
  • Radiation or chemotherapy treatment
  • Testicular or pituitary tumors
  • Inadequate production of GnRH

Male hormones decline more gradually than women. The decline of testosterone is about 1% per year, while DHEA declines at 2.5% per year beginning at age 30. Therefore, by the age of 80 most men will have testosterone levels below that of a prepubescent male. The declining hormones include testosterone from the testes, human growth hormone (HGH) from the pituitary and DHEA and androstenedione from the adrenal gland.

This generally involves a detailed medical history. Investigations include a comprehensive Hormone Test which measures total and free testosterone as well as DHEA, estradiol, DHT, and cortisol. Lab testing can be evaluated with blood testing or with salivary testing. Evaluation of results will be undertaken by one of our experienced health care professionals who can provide recommendations for appropriate management.

Management of Male Hormone Imbalance and Hormonal Illness.

It is wonderful to understand that men no longer have to suffer in silence and distress with the discomforts of Hormone Imbalance or Hormonal Illness. Natural, Bioidentical Hormone Restoration Therapy is the therapy of choice for Hormone Imbalance Illnesses in both Men and Women.

Route Of Administration for Testosterone Replacement

Testosterone supplementation is commercially available in oral, topical patches, and injectable forms. However, evidence indicates that Bioidentical Horrmonal Therapy which involves the insertion of Bioidentical Hormone Pellets under the skin, is the Preferred Route of Administration.

Pellets are made by a compounding pharmacy and placed under the skin by a trochar device in the doctor's office. The pellets dissolve under the skin over the course of 4-6 months. This delivery method offers the convenience of 2-3 administrations per year compared to daily dosing of tablets or topical formulations as well as slow and steady release of testosterone into the system. These formulations offer great benefits by bypassing the metabolism of the liver. This is important as medications and hormones taken orally are subject to the metabolism of the liver, which metabolizes a large chunk of the active hormone. This process leaves less hormone available to supply the needs of the body's receptors as well as metabolizes hormones into less desirable metabolites.

How do I Proceed?

Step 1:    Take the Hormone Profile Survey

Step 2:      Get Tested.

Based on the information in your profile you will be advised what hormones need to be tested.  You wil be sent the appropriate test kit.  If  you are interested in Pellet BHRT where the hormones are painlessly inserted under the skin for 4-6 months of symptoms relief, you will require a blood test.  If you are interested in Traditional BHRT, which requires taking the hormones daily, you will need a saliva test.

Step 3:      Consultation With Dr. Camille Semple-Daly

Board Certified with OB/GYN

When we receive your test results, (approximately 2 weeks after the lab receives your sample), you will be contacted to arrange an appointment for a consultation with the doctor.

Step 4:      Management Plan.

At the time of your consultation a detailed care plan will be provided.  This will be based on the consultation with the physician, physical exam, symptoms and test results.  All care plans are based on your own needs, and include an evaluation of Nutrition, Exercise and Lifestyle choices.

In the case of Traditional BHRT, a prescription will be sent to our compounding pharmacist, (or a compounding pharmacy of your choice), based on the results of your consultation, symptoms and salivary test.  Our bioidentical hormone restoration plan is individualized specifically for you.  Our therapy is never mass produced. One size does not fit all.

Step 5:      Continued Plan of Care

At the time of your consultation a detailed care plan will be provided.  This will be based on the consultation with the physician, your symptoms and test results.  All care plans are based on your own needs, and include an evaluation of Nutrition, Exercise and Lifestyle choices.
