Frequently Asked Questions: (FAQ)
What are Bioidentical Hormones?
Bioidentical hormones are derived from natural plant source. They are 100% biologically identical to the human hormones. Bioidentical hormones possess the exact hormonal structure of human hormones and are therefore recognized by the body as its 'own'. Bioidentical Hormone Restoration is the art and science of giving back to the body what it is no longer efficiently producing.
I am concerned about the recent studies on hormone replacement. Do Bioidentical Hormones have the same risks as synthetic hormones?
The recent study by the Women's Health Initiative (WHI) was performed using Synthetic Hormones. This study found that Synthetic Hormones increase the risks of strokes, heart attacks, breast cancer, and blood clots. Balance with Bioidentical Hormones has not been shown to increase these risks. In many studies hormonal balance with BHRT has been shown to be protective.
What are some of the symptoms of hormone imbalance?
Women who are hormonally out of balance may experience: hot flashes, sleep disturbances, irritability, mood swings, fatigue, unexplained weight gain, hair loss, irregular periods, depression, anxiety, memory loss, fuzzy thinking, vaginal dryness, diminished sexual desire, painful intercourse, bladder symptoms, and more.
If menopause is a natural phase of womanhood, why do I need supplementation (natural or otherwise)?
Not all women need BHRT, but if you are experiencing symptoms, you may be hormonally unbalanced. Apart from annoying symptoms, hormonal imbalance increases the risk of breast cancer, heart disease, arthritis, osteoporosis, and diabetes, to name a few.
I am in my 20's and I have had PMS and painful menses ever since I began having periods. Will BHRT help me?
PMS, painful periods and heavy periods may be indicative of hormone imbalance. Traditionally these problems have been treated with pain medications, birth control pills, and/or antidepressants. These therapies mask the underlying problem. The goal of BHRT is to correct the hormone imbalance naturally, thus mitigating your symptoms.
I am in my 30's and I experience many of the symptoms described by symptomatic menopausal women. Can this be perimenopause?
Your symptoms may well be the result of the hormonal imbalances of perimenopause. Many women do not realise that it is not uncommon to experience ones first such hormonal changes in ones 30's.
How do I know if my symptoms indicate a hormone imbalance?
The only way to be sure if a hormone imbalance exists, and specifically which hormones are unbalanced, is to be tested. Appropriate testing, interpreted correctly, is an accurate means of identifying hormone imbalances.
What hormones may be responsible for my imbalance?
Your symptoms will help us determine which hormones may be at the root of your imbalance. Based on your symptom profile, Estrogens, Progesterone, Testosterone, Cortisol, DHEA, and/or Thyroid may be tested.

What are the side effects associated with Bioidentical Hormone Restoration?
Because bioidentical hormones are 100% identical to the hormones made naturally by your body, there are relatively few side effects. In the rare instance that side effects occur, it is generally the result of the dosage of the hormones being too high for the individual. This is why follow-up testing and strictly adhering to the regimen prescribed is important. REPLENISH will individualize a follow-up care plan geared toward monitoring and evaluating each patient to ensure that a balanced dosage is maintained.
How long will I be on my hormone restoration program?
The length of your particular program depends on the severity of your symptoms and your individualized therapy. We will also explore your other factors, including lifestyle choices, as a means to identify the source of the imbalance and correct it. Our hope is to eventually wean you off the bioidentical hormones, at which point you will indeed be naturally balanced.
Will this treatment interfere with my currently prescribed medications?
Generally not. Some medicines may actually be reduced or no longer needed once balance is achieved.
Why doesn't my physician suggest Bioidentical Hormone Restoration Therapy as an option?
When it comes to managing the symptoms of hormone imbalance, the majority of physician training continues to be primarily on synthetic hormones. More than likely they have never been trained on the use of bioidentical hormone restoration. Physicians who effectively manage their patients' hormone imbalances utilizing BHRT had the courage to step away from the familiar to do what we know to be safe and effective for our patients. Physicians need to be proactive and make the paradigm shift in the interest of better health for their patients.
Will I be required to terminate my relationship with my current gynecologist to begin Bioidentical Hormone Restoration with Replenish?
We encourage you to continue to work with your GYN and other health care providers for your yearly pap smears, mammograms, and other necessary periodic exams. Before beginning our program we would like for you to have had a pap smear and mammogram (if indicated), within the last 12 months. Any unexplained vaginal bleeding must be completely worked up prior to beginning any hormone program. In some instances a physical exam may be indicated.
